The National Research Council has released the latest version of the Nutrient Requirements for Dairy Cattle. The last update was in 1989. The publication includes a CD with a nutrient requirement generator and ration calculator. The publication can be ordered from National Academy Press, 2101 Constitution Ave., Washington, DC 20418 or phone 202-334-3037. If you have internet access you can access our departmental site ( and go under Extension programs and nutrition and forage quality to click on the site where the publication can be ordered. Ordering by internet is cheaper than ordering other ways. This publication will assist us in feeding cows better as we learn the fundamentals of the new model.
