37th Virginia Certified Planning Commissioners Program To Be Held in October

Farm Business Management Update, August 2000

By Michael Chandler

The award winning Virginia Certified Planning Commissioners Program, sponsored by the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics in partnership with the Virginia Citizens Planning Association, will convene its 37th class this October 9 and 10 at the Natural Bridge Inn and Conference Center.

First offered in 1985, the certification program features 30 hours of classroom instruction and 10 weeks of home study. The aim of the program is to provide newly appointed, as well as veteran, planning commissioners with a comprehensive overview of their duties, powers, and responsibilities, and a solid understanding of the community planning process.

Following the classroom instruction in October and the completion of the home study portion of the program, participants enrolled in the program will attend a two-day workshop December 14 and 15 in Charlottesville. Registration is $325 for the certification program. This fee covers all activities, books, materials, and meals featured during the program. Seating in the program is limited. Early registration is strongly recommended. Questions regarding the certification program can be directed to Michael Chandler at (540) 231-6921 or via e-mail at rmchan@vt.edu.
