Rural Virginia Prosperity Commission

Farm Business Management Update, December 2001

By Karen Mundy

The Rural Virginia Prosperity Commission report is due December 1. The full report will be available from the Commission website at in early December. The Commission will seek legislation or budget amendments for six recommendations: capital access, digital infrastructure, workforce training and adult education, a tiered incentive program for economically-distressed areas, a Secretary of Agriculture position, and a Center for Rural Virginia. The Center for Rural Virginia will evolve as the Commission continues its work to oversee the legislation being proposed, and to bring about other changes that the Commission sees as needing continued study and attention in efforts to revitalize Virginia's rural economy.
