New Listserv Available for Direct Marketers of Beef

Farm Business Management Update, October - November 2008

By Denise Mainville (mainvill@vt.edu), Assistant Professor, Agricultural Marketing, Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, Virginia Tech

Interest in direct marketing beef to consumers continues to grow! As more and more producers consider this option, the need for communication among farmers, Extension, and other professionals who serve is also growing.

With the aim of responding to this need, a new listserv for Direct Marketers of Beef is being launched. The purpose of the listserv is to provide a forum for communication among direct marketers of beef and other professionals—such as extension agents and specialists, researchers and others. The listserv will enable producers and others interested or involved in direct marketing beef to communicate with one another—to share experiences and ask questions, to teach and to learn. Through this listserv, producers will have also have access to professionals working in diverse areas such as pasture-management, farm business management, marketing and many other production and marketing-related fields. The listserv will also serve as an outlet for notices about emerging research and educational opportunities that will be of interest to direct marketers of beef.

The listserv is being launched and administered by Denise Mainville, a Virginia Cooperative Extension Specialist in Agricultural Market Analysis. Ashleigh Waddle, a graduate student in Agricultural & Applied Economics at Virginia Tech, will assist in the day-to-day administration of the listserv. For more information or to sign up to participate in the listserv, contact Denise Mainville (mainvill@vt.edu, 540-231-5774).
