Virginia Premium Assured Heifer TM Sales Start Strong

Fall 2005 sales of VA Premium Assured Heifers (VAPAH) began on September 9 with the Blackstone VAPAH sale. The ninety-two bred heifers averaged $1243. Four other sales with a total of 300 heifers are scheduled for the rest of the fall. Locations for VAPAH sales this fall are:

Oct. 20 - Southwest Ag. Research and Extension Center, Glade Spring, VA
Nov. 5 - Carroll/Grayson Cattle Producers, Mountain Momma Sale, Galax, VA
Nov. 26 - Scott Co. Cattle Assoc., Abingdon, VA
Dec. 2 - Amelia Area Cattlemen's Assoc./Knollcrest, Red House, VA

VA Premium Assured heifers undergo extensive reproductive and physical screening. In addition, they are fully vaccinated against reproductive and respiratory diseases. Bred heifers are bred to calving ease sires that also excel in growth. At the VAPAH Plus level, sires of heifers met minimum genetic standards (EPD's) for milk and growth.
