2006 Culpeper Senior BCIA Bull Sale Results

The 49th Annual Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association Culpeper Senior Bull Sale was held Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises in Culpeper, Virginia.  Seventy-five bulls representing the top sixty percent of the 138 bulls tested sold for an average price of $1979.  The sale included 74 Angus which averaged $1970 and 1 Gelbvieh at $2650.

The sale was paced by Lot 75 consigned by Quaker Hill Farms of Louisa, Virginia and selling to Tucker Family Farms of Amherst, Virginia at $4200 for one half semen interest and full possession.  This August 2005 son of SS Objective T510 0T26 posted EPDs of +11 CE, +1.1 BW, +49 WW, +100 YW, +25 MM, +0.35 IMF, +0.39 REA, and +51 $B complimented by a test ADG ratio 108 and yearling weight ratio 107.

The breeder group award was presented to Echo Ridge Farm of Atkins, Virginia.  Lot 50 led the Echo Ridge consignment, with two-thirds semen interest and full possession selling to Waddle Angus Farms of Saltville, Virginia for $3700.  This son of GAR Yield Grade had test yearling weight and ADG ratios of 113 and 109, along with EPDs of +1.8 BW, +46 WW, +88 YW and +0.93 SC.  The high-indexing bull of the test, Lot 47, consigned by Echo Ridge, went to Glenn Wheeler of Atkins, Virginia for $3100.  This performance son of GAR Encore posted a test ADG of 4.55, ratio 130, and a yearling weight of 1326, ratio 115 along with YW EPD +94.

Mullins Angus Farm of Clintwood, Virginia consigned Lot 104, a calving ease son of SAF Focus of ER which commanded $3200 from Duck Farm Inc. of Madison, Virginia.  The bull posted EPDs of +9 CE, +0.8 BW, +90 YW, +0.26 IMF along with ratios ADG 109, YW 110, and IMF 123.  Selling for $3000 was Lot 69, consigned by Edgewood Farm of Williamsburg, Virginia and selling to Roy Poindexter from Kents Store, Virginia.  This son of CRA Bextor 872 5205 608 had test yearling weight and ADG ratios of 105 and 107, along with YW EPD +86.

Treble W Ranch of Abingdon, Virginia consigned the Gelbvieh bull, Lot 601.  The homozygous black, polled son of Carolina Fortune 2564JET sold for $2650 to John Black of Charlottesville, VA.  This bull posted test ADG and YW ratios of 132 and 105, along with YW EPD +93 and strong carcass EPDs.

All bulls in the test and sale were consigned by members of the Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association.  Bulls were tested at the Culpeper bull test station operated by Glenmary Farm, owned by Tom and Kim Nixon of Rapidan, Virginia.  The sale was managed by Virginia BCIA and the Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, and the auctioneer was Mike Jones.
