National 4-H Poultry Judging Contest Winners - Two Virginia Youth!

On November 21, six 4-H'ers represented Virginia in two contest areas at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
Emily Green of Fairfax won top overall individual in the National 4-H Poultry Judging Contest. Virginia has now won top overall individual for two straight years and for three of the last seven years. The National 4-H Turkey Barbeque/Presentation Contest was won by Stephanie Osborne of Rockingham County. This was the first time Virginia has won this event. Laura Green won the Market Egg Division of the Poultry Judging Contest. This was the third straight year an individual from Virginia has won this division.
The Poultry Judging Team was from Fairfax County and consisted of team members Emily Green, Laura Green, Kevin Thompson and Meredith Thompson.

In all, 20 teams and 79 individuals participated in the National Poultry Judging Contest this year.
Mrs. Marty Green, Fairfax County Volunteer served as chaperone and coach for the judging team. Mrs. Lena Osborne, a volunteer leader from Rockingham County, served as chaperone and coach for the cookery contestants.
The Virginia Poultry Federation sponsored the trip for the Virginia youth.
I would like to strongly encourage all youth to participate in one of these poultry contests in the future. These activities provide exceptional learning experiences, are a lot of fun and if you are successful, provide excellent awards.
The Virginia delegates won a total of $1150 in Savings Bonds at this year's contest and every Virginia delegate won an award.
