Poultry Health Specialist

Livestock Update, May 1997

The Veterinary Services branch of the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has selected Dr. Lynn Tobias as the Poultry Health Specialist for Virginia. Dr. Tobias has been a field Veterinary Medical Officer in southwest Virginia for five years, having received her DVM (1987) and PhD (Veterinary Pathology-1991) at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA. Her position as Poultry Health Specialist is multi-faceted and aimed at providing assistance to the commercial poultry industry as well as to backyard specialty flocks, gamebirds, ratite and cage bird breeders in the area of epidemiologic field investigations and export certification. In addition, Dr. Tobias will be a resource person in the event of avian disease outbreak, keeping concerned parties informed and aiding in disease control or eradication efforts. Dr. Tobias is looking forward to getting acquainted with the various avian industries in Virginia and would appreciate hearing from those with concerns or comments.
