Spring Calving Herds

  1. Begin to gather calving supplies
  2. Keep late pregnant cows gaining 1.0 lbs per day
  3. Pregnant heifers and 3 yr olds should gain 2.0-2.5 lbs per day
  4. Keep high quality minerals available
  5. Review calving assistance procedures
  6. Stockpile a few gallons of colostrum
  7. Attend performance tested bull sales and/or order semen for AI
  8. Soil test pastures not tested in last 3 yrs
Fall calving herds
  1. Begin/continue breeding
  2. Check cow and bull condition
  3. Supplement energy to young bulls during breeding season
  4. Send in forage test if not done earlier this year
  5. Continue to check calves closely for health problems
  6. Reimplant September and early October born calves that were implanted at birth
  7. Soil test pastures not tested in last 3 yrs
